The Best Computer Science Universities in the World
Rather than repeat a single league table, we are building one composite view from the four major rankings (QS, Times Higher Education, ARWU and CSRankings) and explaining the methodology openly. Below is the current QS subject ranking for the universities we cover, followed by every department we profile, grouped by country.
Guides by country
Top for computer science (QS 2026)
| QS 2026 | University | Country |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Massachusetts Institute of Technology | United States |
| 4 | University of Oxford | United Kingdom |
| 4 | National University of Singapore | Singapore |
| 15 | Imperial College London | United Kingdom |
| 20 | University of Edinburgh | United Kingdom |
| 24 | University College London | United Kingdom |
Why the rankings disagree
The tables do not agree with each other. For 2026, QS places MIT first for computer science, while Times Higher Education places Oxford first. Neither is wrong. They measure different things, from reputation surveys to raw research output, so a university can top one table and sit a few places down another. That gap is the reason we aggregate several sources rather than trust any single one. The methodology page explains how the composite handles it.
